Quite dapper, don’t you think?

Filed under: Uncategorized — laurenmaurerartworks @ 6:35 pm
I don’t know, Lee… I’m a little nervous about this- #1, it’s a men’s suit, not a dress, and #2, it’s in acrylic, not watercolor. What do you think? I would like to paint some full length suits, to match my full length dresses, so that’s next on the list- but I had this 8×10 canvas and I loved the crop of this picture.
I’m so glad to have artist friends like Lee who are super inspirational and when I say I’m going to do something, they hold me to it!

for the love of vintage, painting, and dresses

For the longest time I thought that in order to express myself through my art, I had to paint a specific, clever something, in a certain way, using certain colors. I am starting to understand that just sitting down and painting what I love in the style that I love painting in expresses me and how I feel better that the perfect symbolic composition. The act of creating is therapy for me. The colors that I choose make me feel a certain way. I love these dresses- I love what vintage means and I love that there are so many stories behind them. I wonder who wore them, and who will wear them next and what the dress means to them. I love the elegance of those eras and the pride that people took back then in how they looked and the quality of the clothing that they made and wore. I hope to bring a little bit of those feelings to other people by painting these dresses!

Art With A Heart Show

Filed under: Uncategorized — laurenmaurerartworks @ 10:17 pm

The Ronald McDonald House of Columbia (a great organization, I’ve seen them helping families firsthand!) is having an art show! Thursday, August 26th from 5:30-8:30 p.m. marks the ‘Art with a Heart’ show at the 701 Center for Contemporary Art located at 701 Whaley Street, Columbia, SC 29201.

Wind down your Thursday evening while browsing the wide array of fabulous pieces of art. I will be featuring some of my artwork for sale, along with over 20 other well-known local artists including Christian Thee, last year’s best seller Zackery Worth, as well as additional beloved artists. There will be dessert compliments of The Melting Pot, live entertainment by the USC Cocktails and local musicians, and drinks compliments of Sam’s Fine Wine and Spirits.

RMHC is so excited to have such wonderful support from the participating Midland’s Artists who have agreed to donate a portion of their sales to benefit their cornerstone programs-
The Ronald McDonald House and the Ronald McDonald Family Room.
Please visit http://www.rmhcofcolumbia.org to view the list of participating artists!

Tickets are only $15 each or $25 for two and will be available at the door or you can call 803-254-0118 to purchase in advance.

A portion of all proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia, SC.

I’ll be bringing some of my newest dresses and I hope to see you there!

Sky…check, buoys…check, birds…check, dresses…check….

Filed under: Uncategorized — laurenmaurerartworks @ 12:41 am

12″x19″ acrylic on canvas … It’s a little bit larger version of the sky paintings I did a few months ago. They are so much fun!

In getting ready for upcoming shows, I’m trying to fit in all the things that I love to paint…. which is, quite a bit. I have what one may call AADD Art Attention Deficit Disorder. I want to paint everything, and as soon as I get the first painting of a “series” done, something else catches my attention.

Right now I have a few things going on. I’m getting ready for The Riverwalk Music Fesitval on April 14th. I am picking up a platter today to paint for the Aids Benefit Foundation. They are hosting “Dining with Divas” on April 24th. The platters will be on display at City Art (before the dining event) at Artista Vista on April 22nd. I heard about this fun project through Lee Monts, who is a fabulous artist here in the Columbia, SC area. He will also be at The Gallery at DuPre for Artista Vista. I have some really fun commissions going on right now, and I’ve gotten back to painting dresses (it feels good to get back to watercolors)…and this is all keeping me super busy…. but in a good way!

Here it is, the “season” series of my birdie paintings. They are 11×14 acrylic on canvas….  I think I’m going to keep going, and do a 18×36 horizontal birds on a wire version next.

Winter’s Silhouette

Filed under: Uncategorized — laurenmaurerartworks @ 6:54 pm

Here’s a little  sneak peak of a series I’m working on~ This is a little 8×8 acrylic on canvas painting I did, which inspired me to start painting four 11×14 similar paintings, one for each season.

A free bird leaps on the back

Of the wind and floats downstream
Till the current ends and dips his wing
In the orange suns rays
And dares to claim the sky.
(exert from “I know why the caged bird sings” by Maya Angelou)

Something a little different… abstract -ish sky paintings

Filed under: Uncategorized — laurenmaurerartworks @ 2:45 pm
I have about 10 million great pictures of sunsets and sunrises on Lake Murray. I got them all out and started painting, and somewhere along the way I started having a little too much fun with the paint, and what I ended up with is a little different than my normal style. A little bit abstract? I think so, but not so much hat you can’t tell what the paintings are of.

Avanti Update, White Trumpet, ink vs. no ink and new Etsy Treasury

Filed under: Uncategorized — laurenmaurerartworks @ 2:20 pm

Last night was a huge success at the Fran Sullivan Breast Cancer Art Show Benefit at Avanti! Lots of paintings were sold, lots of money was raised and all for a great cause! Thank you to everyone who came out!

This is a new painting in my shop, White Trumpet. It is 12″x12″ acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas. Click here to buy!

Sometimes a painting just isn’t done until I add the ink…. this one for example was posted on my blog (view the un-inked version here), Facebook and listed in my shop and then I decided it needed a little something, and now I am much happier with it! 5″x7″ water and ink on cold press. Click here to buy!

Red Tulip was feautured in an Etsy treasury created by stefny68! She has got some amazing floral mixed media paintings! Stop by and check her out!
