Old McDonald had a farm…. Eee eye eee eye ohhh….

For this weeks DSDF challenge we were provided a black and white photo of a Pennsylvania landscape and we had to invent the color. I’m not really sure what the Pennsylvania greens look like but here in South Carolina everything is super green and it makes the sky look super blue and I love it so I decided to keep that in mind as I was painting. Having a desaturated reference photo was actually really helpful for me to keep from muddying up my colors. Maybe I’ll start having one on hand for all my paintings!

  1. Hi Lauren.I like this one. Nice complimentary colours with clever positioning of subject.I havnt seen the b+w photo , but I think your interpretation creates a nice curtain of atmosphere. One day I will have the courage to try different strokes. It looks challenging.Kind Regards

  2. Hello Lauren. Gosh, great work! Nice range of greens. And your clouds are so realistic (mine look like strange attempts at cotton candy…yup that’s me…always having food on my mind). BTW, thank you for your encouragement and kindness!

  8. Nice painting, Lauren! I agree that having a ‘gray scale’ photo can be handy to have alongside when painting… sometimes it helps us differentiate the values.
