DSDF Taxis

Filed under: different strokes from different folks, new york city, taxi, watercolor painting — laurenmaurerartworks @ 12:04 pm

For the latest DSDF! challenge, we all were to paint a photo taken on Madison Avenue in New York City. I love to paint cities, but since I have trouble thinking (and therefore painting) linearly, I struggle quite a bit with them. So I decided to try for a loose, but clean look. I love the yellow against the more muted colors, and the little leaves against the buildings. I did not like how my taxis sort of blobbed together and I didn’t really achieve quite the look I was going for, but I really did enjoy this challenge! I will be listing this 8″x10″ watercolor on Arches in my Etsy shop.

  1. I think you did a beautiful job! The taxis show a lot of movement and I love the way you popped the pinks out more boldly here and there.

  2. Wow, I totally stay away from doing buildings/any architecture for the same reason. Give me a tree to paint any day. You did fantastic!

  12. A great job, Lauren! Fresh, loose appearance. I don’t feel the taxis are “blobbed” together…though they do join to create a nice, more prominent, foreground shape!

  14. Hi Lauren: I’m so glad you stopped by my blog. You have made this watercolor look effortless-which we all know that it is so NOT that. Nice loose brushwork and NY mood to your painting.
